It's More…Much More than Just a Music Store…
The Remenyi building is known as “the black building with the big white note.” Behind the façade lie far more expansive premises than meets the eye.
Upon entering, you arrive at our Sheet Music and Bookstore, Canada's largest print music store. Importing directly from publishers worldwide, there is Popular and Classical repertoire for all instruments and voices, Jazz, Folk music, educational materials, and all prescribed conservatory and festival syllabus requirements. But that's just the beginning. You'll also enjoy browsing a huge selection of musical gift items, collectibles and the latest accessories, musical necessities, novelties and art. Something for every musician and music lover.
Next comes a special children's department featuring song and story books, musical games, crafts, beginners' instruments and recordings of all kinds to “Bring Music to Life” for children of all ages.
Further back is our Student String Instrument Department, with instruments and accessories for beginners and for players with progressing abilities and higher demands. The latest in cases, instrument fittings and accessories complement a complete service for teacher and
student alike. This is also the Rental Department, where experienced musicians and educators will provide information and look after your specific requirements. You are invited to “touch and play” in our private trial rooms presented for your convenience.
Down the stairs, our lower level houses the Piano and Educational Music Division, as well as Canada's only Opera Store – a store devoted to everything for the musical voice. And there is much more to explore in The Opera Store: memorabilia from the great opera houses around the world, posters, opera glasses plus an expansive
range of choral music. A cozy “reading room” complete with private listening/playing facilities allows choir directors to research and try a library full of preview scores. Towards the back of the building, while out of sight, but still a vital part of daily activities, are our piano repair workshops and bustling shipping and receiving department.
If you turn to your right upon entering the building, you will be welcomed to Toronto's Steinway Piano Gallery, the focal point of our piano and keyboard division. The first display presents a sampling of various instruments, and the latest digital keyboards. Then through cut-glass doors, you enter the room dedicated to the most illustrious name in piano history, Steinway & Sons. Here is where pianists visit to play and select the Steinway, which in its individual character meets their specific taste and playing style. On the walls are reproductions of significant paintings from the collection of Steinway Hall in New York, plus dedicated photographs of legendary artists from our time. Further along, in our comfort area, you may sip coffee while enjoying a video tour of the Steinway factory and view Remenyi's own archives of dedicated letters, pictures and manuscripts by noted artists, educators and conductors who have been intimate friends and clients of The House.
Stairs lead to our Second Level Piano Showrooms where you will find pianos of all ranges. True to our reputation for dealing only in quality instruments, we still have surprisingly affordable new and refurbished pianos for beginners. This level also features our display of magnificently restored classic pianos, which we deliver to demanding pianists throughout North America. Fine German handcrafted pianos are also featured here, some in unique veneers and furniture styles. With such broad selection, it is easy to see why Remenyi House of Music Ltd. is renowned as “Canada's Showcase of Quality Pianos.”
But the firm's tradition, which began in 1890, is rooted in fine stringed instruments. So here, on the upper level, is a world-class violin shop, where clients can try fine master instruments and bows from the Remenyi collection. Mr. Michael Remenyi and Rosa Remenyi are on hand to welcome visitors and discuss their personal requirements. Consultation for tone adjustments or repairs and restorations by our workshop are always available. You will note that the walls are decorated with dedicated photographs from three generations of the world's great performing artists, many of whom were and are customers of The House.
Separating the String Division from the piano showroom is our Recital Room, dedicated to the memory of the immensely gifted Hungarian composer and conductor, Tibor Polgár. Here, you will find yourself among his library of scores and books, and be surrounded by the Remenyi collection of antique and unusual string instruments. It's a pleasant and fitting environment to try out instruments as well as to attend the ongoing series of recitals and workshops presented by The House for their loyal clients and friends.
One final surprise: the Harp Room showcases the instruments of Lyon & Healy of Chicago and their parent company Salvi Harps of Genoa, Italy.
One house, three floors, four areas of musical specialties. It all makes a visit to Remenyi House of Music Ltd. a rewarding and memorable experience for all music lovers.
